Alm lake in upperaustria
Bounded by the Totes Gebirge mountains to the south lies the picturesque Almtal valley, and at the end of the valley, the Almsee lake. A lake fed by the purest mountain water, it rarely exceeds 19 degrees Celsius in summer. The lake impresses with its idyllic surroundings and crystal-clear waters. A path approximately 6 kilometers long circles the lake.
Also very popular is the Ameisstein, located on the western shore of the lake. From the Ameisstein, there is a stunning view over the Almsee and the imposing Totes Gebirge with its steep cliffs. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. The Almtal valley is a very popular destination, especially on weekends, and the parking lot has recently become subject to fees. This is due to the heavy influx of hikers and day-trippers.
The lake is worth a visit at any time of year. Early in the morning, when mist rises over the lake and the mountain peaks glow in the sunlight, it offers a magical atmosphere. Equally enchanting is late in the evening, when night falls over the lake and a stunning view of the Milky Way becomes possible. There is absolutely no interference from artificial light sources here.
Especially in autumn and winter, the path around the lake offers countless picturesque scenes. As the morning light emerges over the mountains and mist lingers above the lake, the sun peeks through the trees, and morning dew clings to the countless spiderwebs along the path.
